This includes the commercial end of publishing, claims arising from publishing (defamation, copyright and privacy), as well as television and entertainment contracts and book publishing contracts.

The advent of the internet has given rise to the explosion of social media. Our team is experienced in advising clients on disputes pervading social media, and on the use of information extracted from social media.

Recently, our firm was involved in a matter relating to the constitutionality of naming the victims of crimes and which is due to be decided on by the Constitutional Court shortly and advised clients affected by the publication of a best-selling book that was reported on extensively.

LMSL provides a wide range of commercial work with specialisation in the fields of information technology, property development and financial services (short term insurance and fund management) FMCG companies, commercial transport, printing and space exploration.

We assist clients in setting-up venture capital and private equity funds, and provide the full scope of company secretarial services, with rates tailored to the client’s needs.

Our team has recently been involved in raising and securing funds for a business involved in the building and launching of nanosatellites, converted half of all hedge funds in the country to structures compliant with new regulations and advised one of the largest rapid bus transport operators in ongoing negotiations.

LMSL provides the full spectrum of litigation services, including commercial litigation on contract and property disputes, trade mark, copyright and other IP infringements, as well as personal injury claims and business rescue and liquidation applications.

Recent cases include litigation against one of the large petroleum companies, resolving of disputes amongst shareholders and litigating about disputes amongst neighbouring commercial properties (which involved the local municipality).

Our conveyancing department does the normal range of property transfers, personal and commercial as well as assisting clients who are developers.

Our team deals with all issues relating to the transfer of all types of properties on a daily basis and has recently assisted clients with the creation and registration of a sectional scheme on the Cape Town Atlantic Seaboard.

Over and above the litigation aspect of the insolvency and business rescue work, we also assist in the process of winding up of insolvent estates. Previous work in this field included the business rescue application of a prominent hotel in Cape Town.

This is a specialised part of our litigation service. We assist clients with all aspects relating hereto including divorce, partners and cohabitees, maintenance disputes, protection orders and parenting plans.

We are adept at all aspects relating hereto, from preparing and finalising unopposed divorces to applying for the forfeiture of the patrimonial benefits of a marriage (as we recently have in a marriage that lasted only 28 days).

We register trusts for clients, prepare wills and assist as executors of estates, whether as agents for the appointed executors or as appointed executors. We further serve as independent trustees on trusts created by clients.

LMSL has a specialised knowledge of NGO and NPO work, servicing clients both in the formation of NPO and NGO structures (trusts, NPC’s and the like), the tax registration thereof and the post registration governance.

Clientele include an organisation focused on the rehabilitation of criminal offenders and an organisation that is a publisher of investigative journalism, largely focused on the protection of the rights of the indigent.
